Adoption Support Fund

The Adoption Support Fund is a specialist service funded by the Department of Education. The fund was introduced in 2015 to help adoptive and special guardianship families access therapeutic support they were not receiving. Local Authorities and adoption agencies can apply for children who are adopted, going through adoption breakdowns or are on special guardianship orders. In addition, the ASF also includes young adults 21 to 25 with a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Statement / Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan who have left care through adoption or special guardianship.

Among the therapeutic services that the ASF supports are specialist assessments, parenting courses, and creative therapy sessions. Therapy offered through the ASF is family-centred and focuses on building relationships and long-term support for a child and young person's emotional resistance.
